Group Programs

Rehabilitation Through Movement and Connection

Our PINC & STEEL Group Programs are designed for anyone affected by cancer—during or after treatment. Each class is led by a certified PINC & STEEL Oncology Physiotherapist and provides personalised support within a safe, welcoming group environment.

No matter your age, fitness level, or mobility, these programs offer a space to move, connect, and rebuild strength with others who understand the cancer recovery journey.

Why Join a Group Program?
  • Physical Well-being: Improve strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.
  • Social Connection: Connect with others who are having similar experiences.
  • Motivation: Stay committed and inspired by being part of a supportive group.
  • Cost-Effective: Group programs provide high-quality care at no cost to participants.

Explore Our Group Programs

We offer four distinct group programs to meet different recovery needs.  Your PINC & STEEL Physiotherapist will recommend the most suitable program for you.

1. Targeted Program

Designed for individuals at different stages of treatment and recovery, these classes focus on breaking down barriers and building confidence. Targeted Classes help participants transition from individual to group-based rehab, fostering connection and independence. Run once a week for 6 weeks.

Benefits include:

  • Regaining strength and mobility
  • Reducing treatment-related side effects
  • Increasing energy and improving breathing
  • Reclaiming body confidence and control

2. Next Steps Program
This 10-week program helps individuals take the next step in their recovery. Each session combines strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular exercises designed to improve stamina, mobility, and overall health.

Ideal for:

  • Anyone who has completed individual rehab sessions
  • Those wanting to build fitness and continue their recovery in a supportive group setting.

3. PaddleOn Program

A fun, small-group program designed to introduce the basics of stand-up paddling in a safe and supportive environment.

Key features:

  • 8 modules focused on improving balance, core strength, posture, upper body strength, and overall fitness.
  • Suitable for individuals who have completed cancer treatment.
  • Support persons are welcome to join.

4. Online Program

Ideal for those who prefer to exercise from home or face barriers like geographic isolation, transport, or immune concerns.

Program highlights:

  • Participate live or access recorded sessions anytime.
  • One-hour classes, once a week for 10 weeks.
  • Led by a certified cancer rehab physiotherapist.
  • Focused on building strength, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular health.

Why Group Programs Matter

A cancer diagnosis can lead to isolation and disconnection. Research shows that social support significantly improves recovery outcomes, reducing anxiety, depression, and even the risk of recurrence.

In our group programs, people:

  • Share experiences and reduce feelings of loneliness.
  • Build motivation and confidence in their abilities.
  • Celebrate success and progress together.

"Recovery is better when no one is alone."

All group programs are fully funded by the PINC & STEEL Cancer Rehabilitation Foundation to ensure they’re accessible to everyone.

“Doing an exercise class with people who understand and have the same issues was so important to how I felt. The support was amazing and I realised that the people we surround ourselves with help to make us feel normal again, and help to build us back up.”
