Our Vision

A future where every individual touched by cancer not only survives but thrives.

About the PINC & STEEL Foundation

To address barriers in accessing care, the PINC & STEEL Foundation was established in 2006. We are proud to be New Zealand’s only charity dedicated to cancer rehabilitation—supporting people of all ages, at all stages, and with all types of cancer.

Our mission is simple: to help people reclaim the quality of life they deserve after a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer rehabilitation is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve life after cancer. It:

  • Reduces disability and the impact of long-term side effects.
  • Decreases hospital readmissions.
  • Supports faster returns to work, independence, and the activities people love.

The Problem

For many, surviving cancer is only the beginning of the challenge. In New Zealand, people affected by cancer face significant, often overlooked struggles—the lasting physical, emotional, and social impacts of cancer treatment.

While many are fortunate to be cured, they are often left grappling with:

  • Long-term side effects like fatigue, pain, and reduced mobility.
  • Emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, and loss of confidence.
  • Social impacts like isolation, withdrawal from community life, and reduced independence.

Without the right support, these challenges can persist for years after treatment ends, affecting not only individuals but also families, workplaces, and the wider healthcare system.

Why This Matters

No one should have to endure the long-term suffering caused by cancer treatment without the support they need to recover.

The gap in survivorship care leaves thousands struggling to regain their strength, independence, and quality of life. Without rehabilitation, people can face:

  • Declining physical and mental health.
  • Isolation and withdrawal from daily life.
  • Loss of confidence in returning to work, hobbies, and social activities.
  • Greater reliance on healthcare services and support systems.

This places a greater strain not just on individuals and families—but also on our workplaces and health systems.
